University situated in North Dakota is seeking to train UAV pilots. They say that the job requires quite a lot of aviation experience and training to be fully mastered. Of course, if a person is manually controlling the UAV he or she does need previous experience with flying. The fact that North Dakota is trying to become the centre of UAVs industry means only that yet another large community of people, as many others, have spotted the growing potential of UAV market.
The interesting thing about the flying courses in North Dakota is that they do not actually happen. The reason for that is the Federal Aviation Administration, the FAA won't allow the use of drones in the school. The students then learn to fly their machines on simulators. The question of whether that presents them with sufficient amounts of experience will remain to be discovered as more and more of the successful students at the university will actually fly above our heads.
Associate Professor Ben Tapnell admits that most of the jobs for the current undergraduate lie in some connection with military but he adds that he now has ninety different uses for drones. The major ones are these:
“I’ve got about 90 different uses for unmanned aircraft. But some of the big things: agricultural uses — we can get imagery to farmers a lot faster than having to wait for satellites to do the same thing — pipeline patrols, powerline patrols, there’s the possibility of flying organs one place or another to get them there faster for transplants.”
The state of Dakota is preparing itself for the day when FAA allows flying UAVs for civilian purposes. It will be the day when we will see massive boom of all the uses mentioned above.
