Aviation industry certifications are an important step forward when one wants to be in the aviation business. They are even more important if one is a student at an UAV focused university. Recently a number of Kansas State University Salina students managed to present themselves in a very impressive way for they managed to acquire eleven aviation certifications.
The testing for the certificates was carried out by the National Center for Aerospace & Transportation Technologies. The centre itself is mainly focused on development of national standards and certifications which are then recognized by the aviation industry professionals. The students from K-Salina were studying bachelor degree programme called Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Aviation Maintenance and Avionics.
It was not by chance that they were so skilled as to get the certificates, the school that they came from was one of the first universities to offer such a UAV focused programme. The certificates itself are very rare and quite hard to get. Raylene Alexander, associate professor of aviation and avionics, who leads the whole faculty said that
“Only 22 unmanned aircraft systems maintenance certifications have been issued prior to the Aircraft Electronics Association’s region meeting. This was the first time our unmanned aircraft systems students came to the meeting, and there was a total of six unmanned aircraft systems maintenance certifications issued to our students.”
There were other certification tests offered as well. These certificates can then be used to get an entry-level job as an aircraft assembler, foreign object elimination (getting rid of damaging debris) or technician with specialization in electronic systems, dependent navigation systems and an onboard communication and safety systems.
